I love my teeth!!! I have had many fillings from Dr. Carlston and veneers as well. It feels so good to smile and I am complimented on my teeth regularly now. My teeth look so natural that even my closest friend couldn't pin point what was different about me. I would highly recommend him! The staff was friendly and helpful and the facility was clean and professional. I will definitely be back when in Los Angeles. Angie C., Mountlake, WA

Restore Your Smile and Your Confidence

Dental Implants West Los Angeles

When patients have significantly damaged teeth or are missing teeth, the appearance and health of their smiles can be severely compromised. Replacing missing teeth and restoring the structures of the mouth are vital to preventing further deterioration of the jawbone and gum tissues. At Carlston Dental Group, we offer several treatment options in response to tooth loss, including dental bridges, dentures, and dental implants. At our West Los Angeles practice, patients can meet with Dr. Dean L. Carlston in a private, one-on-one consultation to decide which treatment option will give them the results they want and deserve.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are among the most versatile restorative dentistry options available today for patients who are missing teeth or require tooth extraction. Implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jaw to substitute for the tooth’s natural root. Once set in place, dental implants provide the base for natural-looking restorations such as dental crowns, fixed bridges, or implant-supported dentures. When it comes to restorative dentistry options, implants are among the most durable and stable because they fuse with the jaw bone, essentially becoming part of the patient’s natural anatomy. In addition, they can be used to replace a single tooth or several missing teeth.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

Dr. Carlston seeks to provide his patients with advanced and effective treatment options that they can rely on long after the procedure is complete. He offers dental implants to his West Los Angeles patients because of their wide range of benefits, including:

  • Can successfully replace teeth throughout the mouth
  • Strong and long-lasting
  • Restore the appearance of the smile
  • Eliminate patient discomfort while talking or chewing
  • Prevent onset of jaw disorders
  • Prevent jawbone deterioration and gum recession
  • Preserve alignment of remaining natural teeth
  • Preserve facial structures

The Placement of Dental Implants

The dental implant placement procedure takes place in stages over the course of several months. During an initial consultation, Dr. Carlston will examine the teeth and determine your candidacy for dental implants. Most adults are able to receive implants as long as they have adequate bone structure to support the placement of the titanium post. During a later surgical appointment, a recommended oral surgeon will open the gums and carefully insert the implant into its proper position. After dental implant surgery, it takes about four to six months for proper healing and integration of the implant. During this time, Dr. Carlston will provide you with a temporary dental restoration to preserve the appearance of your smile. Once the implant has fused with the jawbone, you can return to Dr. Carlston’s Los Angeles practice to receive your final replacement tooth. Using CAD-CAM technology, Dr. Carlston will take a digital impression of the implant area and create a customized dental restoration that fits properly and looks natural.  After the final restoration is placed, you will be able to chew and speak comfortably, and feel confident in the appearance of your restored smile.

Alternatives to Dental Implants

Dr. Carlston also offers traditional fixed dental bridges as a less-invasive alternative to implant-supported bridges. Dental bridges are replacement teeth that are anchored by dental crowns placed over adjacent natural teeth. The replacement teeth close the gap left behind by missing teeth. Dental bridges do not require oral surgery, and can be fitted and placed in one easy office visit using the CEREC® milling machine. Dr. Carlston uses only porcelain material, which produces a durable and natural-looking result. While traditional dental bridges can restore function and appearance, it should be noted that they typically do not last as long as their implant-supported counterparts and may need to be replaced after several years.
