General & Family Dentistry

Educating patients about the importance of maintaining their oral health is an important part of my goals as a general and family dentist. The easiest way to protect the health of your smile for the long term is by getting regular dental checkups and cleanings. Visiting our office every six months can help you prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and more serious dental problems from affecting your and your family’s oral health and general well-being.

At Carlston Dental Group, I am happy to treat patients of all ages and provide a host of general dentistry services to prevent and treat the most common dental issues that can affect their oral health. Regular exams allow me to catch potential problems early and provide treatment that will prevent them from developing further.

The earlier we are able to diagnose and treat your oral concern, the easier the treatment and recovery will be. For example, if your child has cavities that are left untreated, they will eventually get to the point where they need a root canal. However, if we catch them early enough, we may be able to simply fill their cavity and prevent the problem from becoming worse.

Children’s Dentistry

In my practice, I encounter many parents that feel children don’t need to see the dentist until their adult teeth begin to erupt. However, this isn’t true at all. In fact, children should visit the dentist by their first birthday or once their first baby tooth erupts – whichever occurs first.

This visit will lay the foundation for great oral health in the future and will include a gentle cleaning, an exam of the mouth for any potential problems, and a discussion about good oral hygiene habits, such as regular brushing and flossing. I also take the time to talk to parents about their child’s diet and nutrition, which can help prevent cavities and promote healthy teeth.

It is important to begin regular visits at a young age to ensure a lifetime of good oral health. By keeping regularly scheduled appointments, kids are more likely to have good oral health throughout their lives. Regular exams also ensure that issues are found and treated early and allow us to monitor the child’s growth and development.

Preventive Care

If there is one piece of advice I could give all of my patients, it would be to never skip their six-month checkups. These preventive care appointments are the best way to stay on top of dental issues as they allow me to catch any potential problems early before they turn into bigger ones. The earlier these problems are detected, the easier it is to fix them.

On top of this, the regular cleanings that are part of your six-month checkup help you keep your mouth healthy by making sure your teeth are clean and free of decay and gum disease.

During your preventive dental visits, we will remove plaque, the sticky film that builds up on your teeth, and tartar, which is hardened plaque, to ensure your oral health is protected.

I will also perform a comprehensive exam to check the health of your teeth and gums. If you show signs of gum disease, I may recommend a deep cleaning procedure like scaling and root planing. This will remove the bacteria and plaque buildup from your tooth’s roots and prevent the infection from getting worse.
