Invisalign is a series of transparent, removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into the correct position. These can completely straighten teeth in as little as one year without interrupting your daily routine. At Carlston Dental Group, the Invisalign system uses a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you based on the treatment plan your dentist makes using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology. You then progress through each set of aligners until your treatment is complete and you’ve achieved the confident smile you deserve. Unlike traditional bracket-and-wire braces that use elastics, metal or ceramic brackets, and other uncomfortable materials to straighten teeth, Invisalign uses smooth, comfortable aligner trays made of lightweight plastic that won’t irritate your mouth like traditional metal braces often do. Since you can remove the clear aligners any time you want to eat or drink, there are no food restrictions with Invisalign treatment. You remove the aligners when you eat and put them back in when you are finished. You can also remove your aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and good oral hygiene. No wires to tighten or brackets to pop off, so you will experience less irritation with Invisalign than with traditional braces.
Who's a Good Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate misalignment and bite issues. Additionally, Invisalign is ideal for adult patients who want to improve their smile but prefer to do so without braces. How Does Invisalign Work?
The Invisalign system consists of a series of clear plastic aligners, or trays, worn over the teeth to move them into their proper positions progressively. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks and moves the teeth slightly closer to their intended final position. Over time, patients can expect their teeth to move into place more gradually.
Since aligners are clear and nearly invisible when worn, they are much less noticeable than metal braces. They are also removable, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance of the teeth and gums. Patients should wear their aligners for at least 22 hours daily to ensure the fastest results. They should only remove them to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean their teeth. Dentists may sometimes recommend that patients wear a retainer after their treatment to help preserve their results.
If you prefer not to have metal wires and brackets in your mouth, then Invisalign is the right option. To learn more, contact Carlston Dental Group at 2472 Overland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90064 or call (310) 838-0844.
